Between Heaven & Earth

May 13, 1997

Up here in this jet, traveling cross-country,
I know where I am going, but not where I am.
I can pick out the mountains and the meadows
But I cannot touch or know them

The snow I discern on the majestic peaks
Like the pure heart of you that I seek
Is miles away where I can't taste its sweetness
Producing longing for the earth of you.

The vast spectacle beneath the clouds below me
Is more amazing than all my imaginations of creation
Yet its reality is more than I can ever know
And it seems futile to try and impossible to not

I thank God I cannot fly forever this way
Experiencing only the untouchable wonder
I long to land and give my life to the earth bound journey
Of honor, of glory, of duty to you

From here, I know I cannot have it all
I know I can reach only the fewest crests
But from the earth, it is the most purposeful adventure
To the greatest goal - the loving pinnacle of your heart

And one day, we will sail where jets cannot
We will know the vastness and the immediate
We will be known both wholly and intimately
Each, Together, One, Complete-In Christ
