Second Place

May 6, 2001

Who are you, oh, second son?
Have you forgotten your heart?
Do you not see you will outrun
often those favored with the first part?

For Abel was favored though after Cain
and Sarah’s son was Abraham’s second,
Issac blessed Jacob, a second child again,
and Jacob loved Rachel, the younger reckoned.

Don’t forget the best – our Lord
for Jesus is the second man
and further, it is His best reward
our second birth, His eternal plan

So hear your father second son
with God’s love shining on your face.
Your value is second to none
in such a favored second place.

This was written for Jeremy, my younger son, as part of a celebration of his choice to follow Jesus Christ which I was privileged to pray with Jeremy for early that year.  This poem was given to Jeremy during a celebration at the time of his baptism.
